Limitations#
The quartet generator is useful, but it is not finished. The most obvious limitation is that material can still accumulate too easily in the upper voices. Even after changes to piano behavior, the ensemble does not yet distribute thematic attention in a fully balanced way. Violin can still attract more foreground activity than viola or cello.
Motivic transfer is also limited. The present system can generate local material, but it does not yet do enough to move short ideas between instruments in a clear chamber-music way. This weakens the sense of dialogue between parts.
Harmonic planning is another limitation. The current quartet code makes many local decisions well enough to produce playable material, but it does not yet plan longer spans of harmonic motion in a strong way. In No. 2, left-hand chord spacing is more deliberate than before, but the system is still not building a full harmonic strategy over large stretches of the piece.
Finally, the repository still contains a useful but incomplete placeholder in the algorithmic package. That is not a flaw in itself, but it does show that the broader planned system is still under construction.
